RISING UP TO MEET NEW CHALLENGES: MONARCH SCHOOL

2020 is the first year that Bro-Am selected Monarch School as a beneficiary of our Annual events, a selection that could not have come at a better time.

Core to the mission of BRO-AM is supporting organizations who support kids through education and empowerment. Monarch embodies this mission perfectly with its Mission to educate students impacted by homelessness and to help them develop hope for a future with the necessary skills and experiences for personal success.

In an ordinary year, Monarch School’s role in the community is to serve youth impacted by the most severe cases of chronic homelessness and address the related academic disruption they have experienced. Monarch addresses the barriers these students face by providing support services and programs that are not available in traditional schools - investing in students to provide a path out of poverty and into a self-sufficient future, improving the lives of everyone in our community.

2020 has been anything but ordinary, giving Monarch School the opportunity to rise up in extraordinary ways. Monarch School stepped up this year in incredible ways to ensure their students were never lost, forgotten, or left without resources. In the face of great challenges like schools being closed, families losing income, and homelessness on the rise, Monarch School rose to the challenge by:

  • Providing over $320,000+ in grocery gift cards to families struggling with food scarcity.

  • Distributing 4,500+ prepared meals to families, many of whom do not have the ability to make meals while sheltering in place.

  • Providing temporary housing solutions and support to families and helping them enter into long term housing solutions

  • Providing hundreds of hours of weekly counseling and therapy services as well as a virtual parent support group.

  • Distributing over 1,800 hygiene kits alongside, warm clothing, feminine products, first aid kits, ponchos and masks, hand sanitizer and disinfectant wipes

  • Secured 90 mobile hotspot devices for students who do not have connectivity, allowing students to engage in distance learning successfully.

This year the SWITCHFOOT BRO-AM Foundation is proud to have supported Monarch School in their efforts to provide full wrap-around services, improve the lives of students experiencing homelessness, educate the next generation and help them explore their passions and achieve a thriving future.
